I'm sure many readers have already seen Extraordinary Measures, the story of John Crowley's herculean effort to find a treatment for his children's Pompe disease. John also has a website. Far too often in our autism community, there is a narrow focus on autism and how it affects us; we forget that there are so many diseases out there impacting other families, often far more profoundly.
We should strive to be not just an autism community but a disability community, focusing on building support for all families dealing with disabilities and diseases, and to remember that we are not alone.
